Daniël Nogueira (1972) is a director specialized in documentary filmmaking, visual design, and directing commercials for the international market. He studied at art academy St. Joost in Breda, at the Audio-Visual Design and Documentary Film Department. After graduation, he moved on to study the post-Graduate course ‘Television and Electronic Imaging and Time-Based Arts’ at the University of Dundee, UK. In addition, he completed a BA in Media Studies at the University of Amsterdam.
While he currently mainly focuses on documentary making and longer format, he began his career as an in-house director for advertising agency 180 in Amsterdam, where he directed international commercials. His former clients include MTV, Adidas, Guess, Sony, and Strongbow. Throughout the years he won various awards, among which the Promax gold for best film promo, a silver Epica award, Webby award, HAFF best music video and receiving nominations from ADCN, and the Dutch Art Director’s Association.
While Daniel’s work spans different genres, it is always characterised by his unique vision and innovative ways of storytelling — whether it’s live action, animation, an amalgamation of various visual styles, or discovering the potentials of digital realism.
Today, Daniel’s focus is the production of 6-part television series ‘Psychology of Con Artists’. He also teaches at the Moving Image department of the AKI Artez Art academy.
